Introduction:
Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are likely to play an excellent role for the
betterment of the unaided segment of the society. They perform various functions like act
as service providers, create awareness and perform business activities to mobilize
resources and to bring change in society through projects and public relations.
The NGO segment in Pakistan is very broad. They are working in various sectors – each
with specific purpose. Some of these sectors are:
• Health (drinking water, food, medical camp, medicines, promotion of hygienic
health practices, nutrition, maternal and child health etc.)
• Education (adult education, primary, non-formal school, voluntary education,
literacy programs etc.)
• Disaster relief (flood and earthquake rehabilitation support etc.)
• Human rights (woman, minority rights etc.)
• Agriculture and farming (Helping farmers in agriculture, fisheries, poultry and
livestock)
• Childcare, orphans and special people
• Poverty eradication
• Legal aid, land and assets distribution
• Environmental sanitation and pollution
• Drugs addiction control and removal
• Income generation activities (donating funds for business, micro credit etc.)
Question:
You are supposed to visit the office of any NGO (organization, society, welfare trust etc.)
at your nearest place and meet any of their member/executive. Get information about the
NGO in context of Human Resource Development and answer the following questions:
1. Name, address and contact number of NGO 1
2. Name of contacted person and his/her designation/status 1
3. In which sector the NGO is operating 1
4. Vision and/or mission of the NGO 1
5. Objectives of the NGO 1
6. Broad strategies of NGO to achieve her mission 1
7. Specific activities performed by the NGO in order to achieve her objectives 1
8. NGO’s contribution to the society/locality so far 3
9. Your analysis and judgment about the performance of the NGO 5
