We have 2 mb in our assignment of 16-bits mean that total we have 1024 + 1024 = 2048 kb in 2 mb of 8 bits. so to make it in 16-bits we have 2048 / 2 = 1024 k of 16 bits.
Now our answer will be some thing like
1024 x 2^10 x 40.
For calculation of instruction required for CPU.
And for polling it will be same as in books except 10 x 10^6 there we will have 100 x 10^6.
And for floppy we will be taking same value.
Because that value is al ready in byte and there is no need to change it in half word or word of because we needed in 8-bits which is given to us.
Now the time required for floppy will be as shown below:
10 x 2^10 x 40.
And the formula for polling of floppy is same instead we have 100 in place of 10.
For last part simple we have as shown below:
25 x 40.
In the same way polling as in book instead 10 we have 100.

Consider a floppy drive having a transfer rate of 48 KB per second is attached to a 32 bit, 10MIPS CPU using an interrupt driven interface. The drive has 16-bit data bus.

Suppose that the interrupt overhead is 10 instructions. Calculate the fraction of CPU time required to service this drive when it is active.

Marks: 5 

A hard disk with 10 platters has 512 tracks per platter, 512 sectors per track and 512 bytes/sector. What is the total capacity of the disk?

Question No 3

Marks: 5 

How many platters are required for an 80GB disk if there are 2048 bytes/sector, 2048 sectors per track and 2048 tracks per platter?
